Final reflection

During the whole summer I have done so many different things, and created new unforgettable memories. It has been a summer full of first experiences and I can’t even choose one favourite from them. I’ve participated in my first jubilee, I’ve gone on vacation with my friends and also with my boyfriend for the first time.  During these months the English assignments have helped me improve my english, because apart from some little chitchats I haven’t spoken much English. So thanks to this diary and the websites, that I checked as soon as I could, I think my English has improved a little bit. But the best thing about this homework is that it has allowed me to keep my memories of this summer forever. I have relived so many moments that will never be forgotten. I also believe that with this diary I have expanded my vocabulary. Even if I don’t remember all of them, now I have learnt and I can use some of them in my everyday-English.

Thirteenth week (1st-8th september)

This was my last week of vacation before the school started, and during this week I did almost the same things as the previous one: I went out for aperitifs, had dinners out, barbecues, and so on. These could have been the most relaxing holidays of the whole 3 months, but I forgot how my dad could be unbearable sometimes. He always wants to be right and while we were talking, he kept interrupting me and talking back. It was really pushing my buttons! Luckily, after a while we both calmed down, and I tried my best to not get mad at him. Apart from this little detail, the trip was relaxing and enjoyable, without many troubles. The best part was that I paid just an aperitif and a magnet for my parents! It was the best sensation ever, because I had already spent all my money during the rest of the holidays. grammar point: past simple/past continuous    words:   unbearable → impossible to tolerate want to be right → voler avere ragione to push my buttons→ to annoy or...

Twelfth week (25th-31st august)

Here we come! My last two weeks of holidays out of Milan. During this period I went with my parents to Tuscany. In this first week I did lots of different things, such as doing barbecues, aperitifs, visiting new cities and obviously, going to the beach. The most interesting one maybe is the day at Riparbella, a little town with some street arts and murales mostly made by the kids of this town. We spent all the morning and the lunch there, then we wanted to go to a nearby lake, but we couldn't find it. When we asked for directions, some locals told us that there were the “yellow caves”. So we changed our destination, and after strolling through the forest, we finally found them. It’s striking to think that if we had found the lake, we wouldn’t have discovered the caves. In the end, it was a kind of lucky accident! Because they were really pretty and the whole walk was so enjoyable! grammar point: past simple and reported speech    words:   to stroll → to walk i...

Eleventh week (18th-24th august)

This week I stayed in my hometown the whole time. Almost every morning, as soon as I woke up, I studied for a few hours so that I could catch up on the homework I had neglected while I was on vacation. Most of the afternoons I went out with my friends, but I also spent some afternoons with my family. For example, we went to Ikea, and we also visited the abbey of Chiaravalle. Apart from these things, I haven’t done anything really special. Maybe the only thing is that a few days after Feast of the Assumption we organized another barbecue, since we still had some meat left from the first one. The whole week was not extraordinary, but it was definitely cheerful and relaxing. grammar point: past simple/past continuous  words:   To catch up on (something) → do something you have not time to do it earlier (recuperare) Neglect → to not give too much attention (trascurare) Abbey → a monastery or church with buildings around it (abbazia) Leftover → remaining food after a meal (av...

Tenth week (11st-17th august)

After coming back from my trip to Salento, I stayed in Milan for something like two weeks. During this time, I managed to do some of my homework, and I also hung out with my friends and with my parents. On the 15th of August, to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption, I went to a friend’s house with the whole group. We organized a barbecue and spent the day together. The heat was a bit overwhelming, but despite that, it turned out to be a really enjoyable day, with a convivial atmosphere. We laughed a lot, played mime games, sang karaoke, and danced to the Just Dance choreographies. It was a truly lighthearted day, and by the end of the evening, I was exhausted but very grateful for such meaningful friendships. grammar point: past simple/past continuous    words:   Overwhelming → very intense, difficult to handle (schiacciante, opprimente) Choreography → planned dance moves (coreografia) Exhausted → extremely tired (sfinito, esausto) Convivial → friendly, sociab...

Ninth week (4th-10th august)

I spent the 2nd and the 3rd of august at the jubilee and it was such a fantastic and spiritual experience. Afterwards, I went to Salento for the rest of the week, where I had time to relax, laugh, pray, and spend meaningful moments with new people. This trip was really helpful for my personal growth and for strengthening my relationship with God and my parish community. One of the best moments was a boat trip. I was with a group of people who made me laugh a lot and we also stopped a few times to swim and see the caves nearby. We also saw the sunset while we were having an aperitif and took a lot of photos. It was an awe-inspiring moment because I realized how God is present in my life, how He cares about all of us and how beautiful He made all this world since we have seen fantastic places during all the trip.   grammar point: past simple/past continuous    words:   Afterwards → after something else; later (in seguito, dopo) Strengthening → making somethi...

Eighth week (28thjuly-3rd august)

This week I have spent most of my time in my hometown, doing homework and hanging out with my parents, since I haven’t seen them much because of my holidays and their work. During these days, I have gone shopping with my mum, visited my dad’s office at Mediaset, and together we have gone to a photographic exhibition about Dorothea Lange. The ticket even included an aperitif, for sure not a bad surprise! The exhibition was about Lange’s career as a photoreporter and has described two major historical events I had never heard about before. I have stayed there for almost four hours, observing both the beauty and the harshness represented in each photograph. It has been a truly enriching experience, and I have discovered an incredibly talented artist whose work still feels very relevant today It has been a full week also because I had to pack my luggage since on 2nd august I had to set off with my parish youth group for the jubilee and a little trip to Salento.   grammar point: pr...
